題名   “A study of geomagnetic storms and thunderstorms by GRAPES-3 muon telescope”
概要など GRAPES-3 muon telescope built in Ooty by a team of physicists from Japan and India is a sensitive instrument for the study of a number of atmospheric, interplanetary phenomena. This is made possibly because the muon flux produced by primary cosmic rays in the upper atmosphere is nearly constant, and therefore, any variation in its magnitude is an indicative of natural phenomenon occurring in our atmosphere and/or in the interplanetary space. During the past two decades the GRAPES-3 team has identified a large number of events caused by geomagnetic storms in the interplanetary space. Similarly, the high voltage developed in major thunderstorm can cause the muon intensity to vary which can be used to estimate such voltages. The analysis of the GRAPES-3 data has produced some surprising results on geomagnetic storms and thunderstorms which will be presented during the seminar.
