ALMA Starts Its Early Operation: Observation Proposal of Assoc. Prof. Masami Ouchi Is Approved and Highly Evaluated by ALMA Observatory

The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observatory announces the commencement of the early operation. ALMA is being developed in northern Chile under an international partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia is the largest astronomical project in existence.
The ALMA observatory has approved the science program of Assoc. Prof. Masami Ouchi at ICRR and his team, entitled

‘Demonstrating Early ALMA Capabilities with the Extremely Luminous Giant Starburst `Himiko’ Discovered at the Redshift Frontier’,

for the early observations, and selected his program as one of four important ones among 919 projects proposed by astrophysicists all over the world.
