{"id":9390,"date":"2020-08-21T15:15:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-21T06:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.icrr.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/?post_type=news&#038;p=9390"},"modified":"2020-10-31T07:49:42","modified_gmt":"2020-10-30T22:49:42","slug":"sk-gd-2","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.icrr.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/en\/news\/9390\/","title":{"rendered":"Introduction of Gadolinium into Super-Kamiokande and the Start of New Observations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: right\">Super-Kamiokande Collaboration<br>\n\n\n\n<p>The rare earth element gadolinium has recently been introduced into the Super-Kamiokande (SK) detector, starting a new period of observations. &nbsp;The addition of gadolinium improves SK\u2019s ability to observe the sea of neutrinos, known as \u201csupernova relic neutrinos&#8221;, produced by supernova explosions that have occurred since the beginning of the universe. In addition, gadolinium will improve SK\u2019s ability to observe the burst of neutrinos from any supernovae occurring in our galaxy and will improve its other research topics, such as the discrimination of atmospheric neutrinos from antineutrinos and the observation of manmade neutrinos.
