Over the past decade, observations have transformed our understanding of compact objects and their mergers. The recently released fourth Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalog (GWTC-4) has nearly doubled the number of confidently detected signals, providing unprecedented statistical power to probe the astrophysical population of black holes and neutron stars. In this talk, I will review the contents of GWTC-4 and highlight key findings from current population studies, including new constraints on the population parameters. I will also discuss the limitations of existing approaches to population inference and introduce a novel method that leverages information from the detection pipeline to extract additional insights. Finally, I will outline the prospects for gravitational-wave astronomy in the coming years, as expanding catalogs, improved detectors, and innovative analysis strategies promise to further deepen our understanding of compact objects and the gravitational-wave
