Irwin (Stanford) - 4/26 (Tue) AM8:30-10:00 JST, オンラインZoom - Indico page: https://kds.kek.jp/event/41602/ (including Zoom connection info) - Abstract: One of the most enduring mysteries in particle physics is the nature of the non-baryonic dark matter that makes up 85% of the matter in the universe. The QCD axion, originally proposed as a solution to the strong CP problem in QCD, is one of the most strongly motivated candidates for dark matter. In this talk, I will describe the search for QCD axion dark matter with mass below ~1 micro-eV. I will discuss fundamental limits on searches for QCD axion dark matter coupled to electromagnetism, subject to the Standard Quantum Limit, and the Dark Matter Radio, an optimized electromagnetic experiment to probe the QCD axion. I will highlight the role of quantum sensors in completing this search. - Brief bio of the speaker: Kent D. Irwin is a Professor of Physics at Stanford University, and a Professor of Particle Physics and Astrophysics and of Photon Science at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. He is the Director of the Hansen Experimental Physics Laboratory at Stanford University. - About QUP seminars: https://www2.kek.jp/qup/en/research/detailQUPseminar.html QUPホームページ:https://www2.kek.jp/qup/ セミナー予定: 4月26日: Kent Irwin (Stanford) 5月: Caterina Doglioni (Manchester & Lund) 6月: Hideo Iizuka (豊田中央研究所 & KEK QUP) (The English version) We are launching a new monthly-seminar series "QUP seminar", as described at the bottom of this email. Please find below the details of the first seminar. Your participation is more than welcome. ----- Date & Time: Apr 26th (Tue) 8:30-10:00 JST Speaker: Kent Irwin (Stanford) Title: DM Radio (tbc) Venue: Zoom Indico page: https://kds.kek.jp/event/41602/ (including the Zoom connection details.) ----- About QUP seminars The International Center for Quantum-field Measurement Systems for Studies of the Universe and Particles (QUP) was established on December 16, 2021, at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) as one of the research centers under the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) of the Japanese government. QUP sets the following missions: • Integrate particle physics, astrophysics, condensed matter physics, measurement science, and systems science. • Invent and develop new systems for measuring quantum fields (space-time with particles and quasiparticles created and annihilated, and associated physical quantities). • Bring innovation to measurements in cosmological observations and particle experiments, and elucidate the true nature of space-time and matter. • Establish a new measurement science, quantum field measurement systemology, as a science of means through the above practices. • Last but not least, we will create a new level of fusion of various research areas beyond physics and new social values through application to other fields and social implementation. In short, QUP will bring "new eyes" to humanity. To facilitate studies to achieve these missions, we have decided to organize monthly QUP seminars. We will invite outstanding researchers from around the world as speakers who will tell us their cutting-edge findings. The seminar will cover a wide range of topics related to QUP's missions mentioned above. Your participation is welcome!
