<<<<<<<<<<<<<< CRC News 2019年 11月 14日 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> CRC会員 各位                    CRC事務局 ***<KMI School 2020 "Machine Learning in Particle and Astrophysics" 2nd circular>*** CRCの皆様 名古屋大学素粒子宇宙起源研究所(KMI)では、 The 3rd KMI School 2020 (2020年3月3-6日 名古屋大学) "Machine Learning in Particle and Astrophysics" を開催いたします。 昨今、急速に進展を見せる機械学習と、素粒子宇宙物理研究の 最前線を結ぶ講師による国際スクールです。 機械学習を用いたデータ解析のチュートリアルも実施します。 参加登録が始まりました。 参加登録の締め切りは、2020年1月31日(金)です。 但し、チュートリアルの都合上定員60名が埋まり次第、 早めに締め切る可能性があります。 またわずかですが、国内旅費サポート、学内宿舎確保も行っています こちらは12月20日締切です。 詳しくは下記ホームページをご覧ください。 http://www.kmi.nagoya-u.ac.jp/workshop/kmischool2020/ 周囲の方にご周知頂くとともに、興味のある方の積極的な参加を 是非お願いいたします。 KMI school 2020 組織委員一同 ====== The 3rd KMI School: " Machine Learning in Particle and Astrophysics " (March 3rd to 6th, 2020) Second Circular (2019/11/13) The Kobayashi-Maskawa Institute for the Origin of Particles and the Universe (KMI) was established on 2010 at Nagoya University in order to explore new frontiers of modern physics beyond the Standard Model. KMI decided to launch the KMI school in 2018, to which we invite distinguished researchers to KMI to have them give their lectures on specific topics every year. The KMI school is intended for graduate school students and young post-docs. We would like you to encourage young members in your groups to join in the KMI school. The 3rd KMI school will be held with a topic "Machine Learning in Particle an Astrophysics”, which is one of the most rapid-developed fields in various research areas recently. While many of data analysis techniques have been developed and contributed to progress in particle physics and astrophysics until now, recent machine-learning-based analysis surprisingly improves speed and quality of data analysis in various fields; collider, neutrinos, dark matter, astrophysics, and observational cosmology, etc. Next break-through in these research areas would be achieved with the help of this new idea, and might reveal yet unknown nature of particle and the universe. Many researchers, including our members in KMI, are working intensively on the subject from viewpoints of elementary particle physics and astrophysics. We will hold the 3rd KMI school as follows: 1. Dates: March 3rd to 6th, 2020 2. Venue: KMI Science Symposia (ES635) in Nagoya University. See http://www.kmi.nagoya-u.ac.jp/eng/about-kmi/contact/ . 3. Program : One lecture to learn basics of machine-learning-based data analysis as well as hands-on tutorial course to experience coding work of simple analysis program using scientific open data-set. (1.5 hours x3 for lectures, 1.5 hours x4 for tutorial) 1) “Basics for machine learning and hands-on tutorial”/ Kazuhiro Terao (SLAC, USA) We will also organize a few topical seminars for machine-learning-based researches in various fields as follows (titles are tentative, 1~1.5 hours for each seminar) 2) “DarkMachines: a research collective of physicists and data scientists to solve dark matter problems using machine learning” / Luc Hendriks (Radboud University, Netherlands) 3) ”Solving inverse problems with Deep Learning: Application to Weak Lensing Mass-Mapping” / Francois Lanusse (CNRS, France) 4) “Machine learning analysis in Event Horizon Telescope” / Shiro Ikeda (ISM, Japan) 5) “Recent progresses in the machine learning and possible application to particle physics” / Yuta Nakashima (IDS, Osaka University, Japan) 5. Hands-on tutorial We plan ~6 hours of hands-on tutorial to learn basic concept of Machine Learning based on Convolutional Neural Networks to play with various data-sets related to particle and astrophysics. Participants are invited with their own laptop computer to login cloud GPU service. Participants are recommended to set-up their computers in advance. The set-up procedure will be provided in this school web page and the final circular. 6. Registration may be closed earlier in case that the number of participants reaches maximum limit (max. 60 participants due to limitation of GPU resource for tutorial and capacity of the lecture hall). Registration desk will be open from the afternoon of 4th March at ES635. Note that registration fee is free for all the participants. 7. Poster session Poster session will be held in the evening of 4th March. We encourage participants to present their own research results at the poster session in school. We will not limit their topics to machine-learning researches but all the topics related to particle and astrophysics is welcome. A presenter prize will be awarded to those who give the best presentation among them. Please provide title and abstract of presentation in the registration form. 8. Social events Participants are invited to Reception held in the evening of 3rd March. School banquet will be held in the evening of 5th March (Thu). Banquet fee is 1000 JPY for a student and 3000 JPY for a PD/staff. Please pay by JPY cash at the Registration Desk. Any dietary/Halal foods request should be informed in the registration form in advance. 9. Financial support Financial support for local expense will be available for a limited number of participants. University dormitory will be also available for a limited number of participants.
