<<<<<<<<<<<<<< CRC News 2015年 5月 26日 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> CRC会員 各位 CRC事務局 ***********< Nominations for the 2015 Price Prize at CCAPP >*********** Dear Colleagues, We solicit nominations for the 2015 Price Prize, which will be awarded by the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics (CCAPP) at the Ohio State University to an outstanding graduate student working in cosmology or astroparticle physics. In some years, we may select two winners. The winner will be invited to visit CCAPP for one week in Fall 2015 and to deliver the Price Prize Colloquium. In addition to covering travel and local expenses, the Price Prize provides the winner with a $1,500 honorarium. CCAPP research includes theoretical, computational, experimental, and observational studies of the nature of dark matter and dark energy, the formation of galaxies and large scale structure, the physics of ultra-high energy cosmic rays, neutrino astrophysics, and the deaths of massive stars. CCAPP scientists are playing active roles in the Dark Energy Survey, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III, the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, the Pierre Auger Observatory, the neutrino experiments IceCube, ANITA, and ARA, and observing programs using the Large Binocular Telescope. Recent faculty hires are Linda Carpenter, Chris Hirata, Annika Peter, Adam Leroy, and Laura Lopez. The winner will be selected by the CCAPP Science Board (see below). We welcome nominees working in all areas of cosmology and astroparticle physics. Our primary criterion is exceptional scientific promise. The winners are typically senior students; those who did or will complete their PhD within 2015 are not eligible. We particularly welcome nominations of women or members of other under-represented groups. Nomination letters, preferably from thesis advisors, should be emailed to CCAPP's program coordinator, Ms. Lisa Colarosa, colarosa.5 [at] osu.edu. An additional supporting letter (maximum of one) is welcomed but not required. The deadline for receipt of all letters is Friday, 26 June 2015. We will contact the nominees directly to request their CVs. Thank you for your help. Please feel free to forward this message to the advisors of promising students. The previous winners are: 2009 Charlie Conroy (Princeton University) 2010 Jo Bovy (New York University) 2011 Sayan Chakraborti (Tata Institute) Michele Fumagalli (University of California, Santa Cruz) 2012 Charlotte Strege (Imperial College) Chris Williams (University of Chicago) 2013 Liang Dai (Johns Hopkins University) Jessica Stockham (University of Kansas) 2014 Shea Garrison-Kimmel (University of California, Irvine) Alessandro Sonnenfeld (University of California, Santa Barbara) CCAPP (http://ccapp.osu.edu/) is a joint initiative of the Ohio State University Astronomy and Physics Departments, founded with a $5.5 million investment of OSU funds awarded through a university-wide competition, and supported thereafter by university funds and generous private endowments. CCAPP activities include a broad range of research topics pursued by about 25 faculty, 10 postdocs, and 20 students; an active program of visitors and workshops; and a variety of outreach projects. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ John Beacom Professor and Director of CCAPP (http://ccapp.osu.edu) Department of Physics and Department of Astronomy Ohio State University email: beacom.7 [at] osu.edu, phone: (614) 247 - 8102 Dept. of Physics, OSU, 191 W.
