Announcement and Call for Papers: COSPAR Session on Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy The 35th COSPAR Scientific Assembly will be held in in Paris, France, over the period 18-25 July, 2004. As part of this, there will be a Session E1.5: "INTEGRAL: New Perspectives for Astrophysical Nucleospectroscopy". This Session is intended to highlight the science which is addressed by the ESA INTEGRAL Observatory with the SPI Spectrometer as one of the main telescopes aboard the satellite. This provides excellent spectroscopy power in the domain of nuclear lines, thus allows the study of radioactivities from nucleosynthesis events such as novae and supernovae, nuclear excitations by energetic interactions from cosmic rays or near accreting compact objects, and positron annihilation in interstellar space or plasma jets from black holes. The contributions in this Session are intended to first demonstrate the capabilities of the INTEGRAL instruments for nucleospectroscopy in view of detector performances and instrumental backgrounds, and broadly discuss the science which can be or is made with gamma-ray line measurements from supernovae and supernova remnants, from novae, from black-hole candidates and accreting neutron stars, and from prominent regions of interstellar matter such as the Galactic Center region. Overlap of astrophysical issues with other Sessions of the Assembly may be specifically with: E1.4 "Young Neutron Stars and Supernova Remnants" E1.6 "Sources of Cosmic Rays in the Galaxy" These have been coordinated to not conflict in schedule with the INTEGRAL Session. We herewith invite your contributions to the discussions of this Session. There will be oral and poster contributions. There are two invited talks to set the stage for this Session: Jordi Isern: INTEGRAL Perspectives for Supernova and Nova Science So, if you work on or intend to address these issues, and consider gamma-ray spectroscopy as one of the observational constraints, your contribution is welcome in Session E1.5 The WWW site for this assembly is at http://www.copernicus.org/COSPAR/COSPAR.html , within you may find more information on the meeting and the sessions. Abstracts must be submitted before February 15 directly to: Copernicus Gesellschaft 35th COSPAR Scientific Assembly Max-Planck-Strasse 13 D-37191 Kaltenburg-Lindau, Germany tel: 0049 5556 91099 Fax: 0049 5556 4709 or electronically to cospar [at] copernicus.org Instructions to submit abstracts may be found on the web at http://www.copernicus.org. Registration information may be found in the COSPAR bulletin 157 or on http://www.cospar2004.org. We hope you will help to make this a good Session of COSPAR. Thank you in advance. Greetings, Roland Diehl and Nikos Prantzos
