[[[ Outline ]]]
"The Universe viewed in gamma-rays ---The University of Tokyo 
Workshop 2002---" will be held on September 25-28, 2002 in 
Kashiwa, Chiba, Japan. The purpose of this symposium is to discuss
 the new views of the universe grasped mainly in the rapidly 
developing high energy gamma-ray astrophysics in the energy range 
above 10 GeV. New ground-based observatories of very high energy 
gamma-rays are being built, energy threshold are being lowered, and 
stereoscopic observations with new telescopes will be started soon.
 The symposium will cover observational and theoretical aspects of
 Galactic and extragalactic sources of gamma-rays which contribute 
to the existence of nonthermal particles in the universe. 
Information of the photons in other energy regime is mandatory to 
uncover the secret of very high energy phenomena in the universe 
and multiwavelength campaigns will be also. This symposium is 
hosted by ICRR, University of Tokyo and sponsored by the Ministry 
of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.

Abstract::  The abstract in ASCII characters within 200 words. 
   Special formatting for mathematical items may be done in LaTeX.  
Requested Presentation Type::  The session name and the type 
  of presentation you wish to give: oral (10-20min: allocated by LOC) 
  or poster (150cm x 150cm).  
Special Requests::  Any special requests you have for your 
  presentation. (An LCD screen projector with XGA resolution will be
equipped.)  
The deadline for abstract submission is August 01, 2002.

The Symposium proceedings will be published as a hardcover book. 
Both invited talks and contibuted papers will be included. Authors are 
required to prepare a camera-ready manuscript. Electronic submission is 
preferred (the details will be informed later). The deadline for
submission 
will be November 30, 2002.

[[[ Location ]]]
The venue of the symposium will be the main hall of "Sawayaka Chiba 
Kenmin Plaza" near the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research (ICRR) 
of the University Tokyo, in Kashiwa, Chiba, Japan, which locates in 
Kashiwa campus, the newest major campus of University of Tokyo. 
An overhead projector and an LCD projector with a CCD camera 
and an RGB interface (XGA resolution) will be equipped for presentation.

Kashiwa City is located 30 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. The 
access map to our institute is here. The "Sawayaka Chiba Kenmin Plaza" 
is 5-min walk from ICRR.

Visa
For many countries visa is not rquired to enter Japan for a visit less
than

Weather
September is the time weather is changing into autumn and rather good 
season to visit Japan. The average temperature is about 23degree Celcius

(average maximum: 26.5degree, average minimum: 20.2degree) and the
relative 
humidity is 78% on average.

(Except for those who come from abroad, each participant is requested 
to make his/her own reservation. Hotel information (in Japanese) is

For overseas participants, rooms are available at the ICRR Kashiwa
Lodge, 
the Guest Accommodations in "Sawayaka Chiba Kenmin Plaza" and the 
hotels listed below. To reserve your room, please indicate your 
accommodation preference (the hotel name), arrival and departure 
dates and other information if necessary in your registration request. 
Due to the limited number of rooms, LOC may assign other hotels than 
your preference. (Prices below are per person per night.)

1. ICRR Kashiwa Lodge (JPY 2,500 /night)

Located at ICRR Kashiwa Campus (Five- minutes walk to the symposium
site) 
All single rooms. 
No meal is available at the Lodge, but the ICRR Cafeteria nearby is open
from 11:30 to 20:00 (from Monday to Friday). Breakfst items and other
foods are available at a neaby convenience store. 
Can be booked from September 25 to 28 (4 nights), and only a limited
number of rooms will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. 
Credit cards cannot be accepted, and payment must be made in Japanese
Yen. 

2. Guest Rooms in "Sawayaka Chiba Kenmin Plaza" (JPY 3,320/night)

Located in the same building as the symposium hall. 
No meal is available at the Lodge, but the Cafeteria is open during
lunch time. For breakfast and dinner, reservation should be made in
advance. 
Can be booked from September 25 to 28 (4 nights), and only a limited
number of rooms will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

3. Kashiwa Plaza Hotel (JPY 5,985/night)

Located near Kashiwa Station and the bus stop for the symposium site and

4. Hotel Sungarden Kashiwa (JPY 8,000/night)

Breakfast included.

1) It will take about 30 minutes from the above hotels near Kashiwa
Station to the symposium site, Sawayaka Chiba Kenmin Plaza, and ICRR.
2)Public bus transportation is available between Kashiwa Station and the
symposium site. It takes about 30 minutes.(Click here for the bus
schdule (sorry this includes Kanji characters).)

Conference banquet will be held on September 27 (Fri) evening. The
ticket will be approximately JPY 5,000 per person and should be reserved
at registration. (Limited number of tickets may be available on site.)

The registration fee is JPY 20,000 and includes the fees for the 
Proceedings, coffee breaks which should be paid in Japanese yen 
(cash only) upon your arrival at the registration desk.

We can help limited number of participants for their accomodation

Only Japanese yen in cash is acceptable as payment at the registration 
desk. Neither credit cards nor checks are acceptable there. 

No banks are located near the symposium site and ICRR. However, 
an ATM of Post Office is located at "Kokuritsu Gan Centre" (National 
Cancer Centre), about 5-minute walk from the site, and open weekdays 
from 9:00 to 18:00. Major credits careds such as Visa and MasterCard 
are accepted.

Consumer tax: You have to pay consumer tax of additional 5% when
