Dear CRC colleagues, Enclosed please find the First Circular of the 5th KEK Topical Conference - Frontiers in Flavor Physics - at KEK, November 20-22, 2001. The circular, as well as the registration and accommodation forms, is available from our Web page: http://kektc5.kek.jp/ Sincerely yours, The 5th KEK Topical Conference Local Organizing Committee Email: kektc5 [at] kek.jp ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Fifth KEK Topical Conference - Frontiers in Flavor Physics - November 20-22, 2001 KEK, Tsukuba, 305-0801 Japan http://kektc5.kek.jp May 2001 First Circular General Information The 5th KEK Topical Conference - Frontiers in Flavor Physics - will be held at KEK in Tsukuba, Japan, November 20-22, 2001. The KEK Topical Conference is a series of conferences held at KEK every few years. The purpose of this year's conference is to present the most recent results of various experiments in the area of flavor physics and discuss theoretical issues and future experimental prospects. Since the last KEK Topical Conference on Flavor Physics in 1996 there have been many new experimental activities and their results around the world. At KEK, for instance, the Belle experiment at the KEKB accelerator is producing new results on B-meson decays and CP violation, and K2K, the long-baseline neutrino-oscillation experiment using the KEK 12GeV-PS accelerator and the Super-Kamiokande detector, is collecting information on neutrino mass and flavor mixing in the lepton sector. The High-Intensity Proton Accelerator Facility, which was recently approved, promises a bright future in kaon, muon, and neutrino physics. All of these topics will be discussed in the conference by distinguished experimentalists and theorists invited from around the world. We hope that the conference will further stimulate worldwide interest in flavor physics and develop new frontiers in this field. Scientific Program The conference will cover the following topics. - CP violation - Physics of B and K decays - Neutrino physics - Lepton flavor violation - Flavor physics in the Standard Model and its extensions The conference will comprise invited talks in the three-day plenary session and contributed papers, which will be presented in a poster session. Tentative Program in the Plenary Session ("+" = to be confirmed.) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Invited review speakers include: M. Beneke (RWTH Aachen) A.F.
