  ご存じの方も多いと思いますが、Bieber氏は宇宙線モジュレーション理論の
分野で活躍されており、今回、通信総合研究所の招きで初来日されました。
東大では、モジュレーション理論の現状をご紹介いただくとともに、期待され
る陽子・反陽子比についてもお話をいただく予定です。BESS観測にも関連の深
い結果が紹介されると思いますので、興味をお持ちの方はぜひご参集ください。

内容 :
    Solar modulation is the process by which the Sun regulates the
intensity of galactic cosmic rays entering the solar system.  
The important physical mechanisms of solar modulation are scattering 
and diffusion in the turbulent interplanetary medium, drifts caused by 
inhomogeneities in the large-scale magnetic field, and adiabatic 
cooling in the expanding solar wind.  Theoretical results from numerical
modulation codes will be presented and compared with observation.  
Special emphasis will be placed on transport processes that are sensitive
to the sign of particle charge, and which might produce a time variation 
in (for example) the antiproton/proton ratio measured near Earth.
