The MAGIC experiment, situated in La Palma, Canary Islands, is a 17m imaging Cerenkov Telescope for the detection of cosmic gamma-rays. The MPI is one of the major participants of the international MAGIC collaboration. For an upgrade of MAGIC's camera the MPI develops a novel type of silicon photomultipliers based on arrays of avalanche diodes. These diodes need to have a quantum efficiency approaching 100 percent and excellent timing properties with a resolution of a few nanoseconds. The successful candidate should participate in the design of these devices, supervise the production of prototypes and their evaluation. Most of the work will be carried out in the institute's Semiconductor Laboratory, situated in the Siemens plant in Neuperlach, Munich. The Semiconductor Laboratory, a joint project of the MPI and the Max-Planck-Institute for extraterrestrial Physics, offers outstanding facilities and an ideal environment for designing, producing, and evaluating silicon detectors. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the German public service pay schedule (BAT IIa). The contract is initially limited to 2 years with the possibility of an extension. Candidates should have good knowledge and working experience in experimental particle, astroparticle or semiconductor physics. The Max Planck Society wishes to increase the participation of women in its research activities. Therefore, applications from women are particularly welcome. Following their commitment to an equal opportunities employment policy, the Max Planck Society also especially encourages handicapped persons to submit their applications. Interested applicants should submit a written application, a statement of their research interests, a curriculum vitae and a list of publications, and arrange for three letters of support to be sent to Max-Planck-Institut fur Physik Frau Sybille Rodriguez Fohringer Ring 6 D-80805 Munchen Further information can be obtained from Prof. Dr. Masahiro Teshima (Email: mteshima [at] mppmu.mpg.de) or Dr. Hans-Gunther Moser (EMail: moser [at] mppmu.mpg.de). Applications should be sent as soon as possible, at the latest 6 weeks after publication. ===================================
