The MPG is an independent, non-profit research organisation which seeks to promote basic research in the service of the general public. For research funding from the federal and state governments, the scientific quality of each institute plays an essential role. Every two to three years, all institutes are evaluated by an international, independent scientific advisory board. The interface to the general public is represented by the Board of trustees which is comprised of press, industry and politics representatives. The division of non-thermal astrophysics at the Max-Planck-Institut fur Kernphysik at Heidelberg, (Germany) offers a stimulating and international research environment and invites applications for Post Doctoral Research Associates. Research Area: - High energy astrophysics - Astroparticle physics - Data analysis and interpretation in gamma-ray astrophysics Your Profile: - A PhD in physics, astronomy or astroparticle physics - Experience in instrumentation, data acquisition, data analysis or simulations in astroparticle physics, high energy physics or astrophysics. The successful applicants will work together with Professors Jim Hinton and Werner Hofmann on the CTA and HESS very high energy gamma-ray telescope systems. Opportunities include development of camera hardware, data analysis, and simulations for CTA, and data analysis and scientific exploitation of HESS phase-2, including associated multi-wavelength and multi-messenger activities. The salary will be paid according to the collective agreement for civil service employees (TVo?D) and includes additional retirement benefits (VBL). The contract period is for 2 years with the possibility of extension. The details will depend on the qualification of the applicant.
