Scientific Objectives One of the major challenges in astrophysics is to reveal the origin of cosmic high energy particles and radiation. Our understanding in high energy astrophysical phenomena has been deepened recently through the observations by the Fermi satellite, ground based observations by MAGIC, TA, and other instruments, and advances in numerical methods to simulate relativistic plasmas. Furthermore, we are anticipating the broadening of the horizon of high energy neutrino astrophysics by IceCube, which will be in full operation this year. In this workshop, we would like to review the progress in high energy astrophysics/astroparticle physics in last 5 years since we held the first workshop on Particles and Radiation from Cosmic Accelerators (CA2005), and discuss the prospects for the future. Through this workshop, we hope to push forward the collaboration between the communities of high energy particle astrophysics, high energy astrophysics and plasma astrophysics. 2. Organizers Shigeru Yoshida (Chiba University, Chair) Ryoji Matsumoto (Chiba University, Co-chair) Keiichi Mase (Chiba University) 3. Workshop Plan This workshop will be held from March 22 to March 24, 2011. We focus on the following topics. We will have 2-3 key talks on each topic and call for contributed talks. Observations, theories, and simulations of (1) High energy cosmic rays (TA/Auger) (2) High energy gamma rays (Fermi/MAGIC) (3) High energy neutrinos (IceCube) (4) Accretion disks, relativistic jets and winds (5) Magnetic energy release in relativistic plasmas (6) Particle acceleration 4. Invited Speakers M. Ahlers (C.N.Yang Institute of Theoretical Physics) M. Hayashida (SLAC) S. Hirose (JAMSTEC) M. Hoshino (Univ. Tokyo) S. Koide (Kumamoto Univ.) J. McKinney (Stanford Univ.) S. Nagataki (Kyoto Univ.) *D. Paneque (MPI) Y. Tameda (ICRR) D. Uzdensky (Univ. Corolado) T. Yamamoto (Konan Univ.) (*to be confirmed) 5. Call for papers In addition to the key talks, we invite contributed talks. Please submit a title and short abstract with the registration form. 6. Registration Please fill in the registration form attached below and send it by e-mail to ca2011 [at] astro.s.chiba-u.ac.jp by Feb. 14, 2011. Registration fee is 2000yen. The fee for banquet, which will be held in the evening of March 23, is 6000yen (3000yen for students). The registration fee and fee for banquet will be collected at the desk of registration on the meeting. 7. Schedule Feb. 14, 2011 : Deadline of registration and abstract Feb. 28, 2011 : Second circular including program Mar. 22-24, 2011: Meeting 8. Travel Support Only very limited amount of travel support is possible. If you need travel support seriously, please contact ca2011 [at] astro.s.chiba-u.ac.jp by email. Except the invited speakers, we can support only the domestic expenses after arrival at Tokyo-Narita airport. 9. Transportation Chiba University is located between the Narita("New Tokyo") International Airport and the downtown Tokyo. We are in the Nishi-Chiba ("West Chiba") campus, the main campus of the Chiba University. The easiest way to access to our campus is to catch the JR line. From the Chiba station that the train from the airport directly takes you, transfer to the JR sobu line local. The Nishi-Chiba station, the closest station to the campus is just a station ride from Chiba, which takes 3 minutes. This JR Sobu line takes off at Chiba every 10 minute or so, and it is real easy from Chiba to Nishi-Chiba. The University is right in front of the Nishi-Chiba station. 10. Lodging We are going to arrange lodging for attendants from abroad. We can book hotel rooms near the JR Chiba station. Please let us know your preferable choice of the options listed below. We try to follow your preference as much as we can, but reservations we will make for you is first-in first-out basis. Rate Double room (single occupancy) 9250yen/night Double room (double occupancy) 13100 Single room 8250 Cheaper single room 5000 11. Visa If you need our formal invitation letter to get a Japanese short-stay visa, please send e-mail to ca2011 [at] astro.s.chiba-u.ac.jp as soon as possible. General information is found in a web page of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us. 12.
