Okkie's work in high energy astrophysics covers the full range from instrumentation to theory; he was active both in H.E.S.S. and MAGIC and made key contributions to both. Okkie was the anchor for CTA in southern Africa. Okkie will be remembered as a great scientist and a cultured, original, and stimulating companion. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family.
