We will focus on the theoretical and experimental frontiers of Cosmic Mirowave Background. Cosmic Mirowave Background is the fossil of the ancient light when the Universe just became transparent. It constitutes the best evidence that the Universe is highly homogeneous and isotropic. It also contains small temperature fluctuations which seed the structures of the Universe. They are believed to be originated from quantum fluctuation of space-time during the exponentially expanding (inflation) epoch. They thus constitute the best window to probe the ultra high energy physics around possibly the Grand Unification Scale. We are anticipating to obtain deeper understanding of the origin of the Universe through new informations on CMB soon. They include the possible detections of tensor mode (B mode) and non-gaussianity. Our school aims to prepare students to participate in these exciting developments. Lectures will be given on the both theoretical and experimental frontiers of CMB. These lectures are accompanied by discussion sessions which aim to foster each student's understandings of the subjects. We also organize seminars including of experimental nature which are informative to students. Lecturers: Suzzanne Staggs (Princeton) Eiichiro Komatsu (Texas) Alexei A. Starobinsky (Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics) Important dates and location Application deadline Nov 30, 2008 * School DATE: 9 Feb (Mon) - 13 Feb (Fri), 2009 * PLACE: Hotel Village Kusatsu 618 Kusatsu-Machi Agatsuma-Gun Gunma 377-1793, Japan TEL:+81-279-88-3232 How to apply A number of PhD students and PD fellows from inside/outside of Japan can be supported for local expenses, and we encourage their applications.
